I’m Julie Weinkauf, calligrapher and engraver at Calligraphy Jewels. Fun fact: Jewels is a play on my nickname Jules.
From Army Brat to Midwestern girl, my husband and I settled down in his hometown on the north side of Indianapolis and are raising our son and five daughters here. Once our youngest daughter started school, I was able to indulge my creative side and have steadily grown my business. I love a challenge, and because of that I’ve gotten to try my hand at quite a variety of projects, from pen and paper to engraving glass and metal to painting. My parents gave me a calligraphy kit as a Christmas gift during college, and I really enjoyed studying and practicing the letter forms. I even addressed my own wedding invitations, though I shudder to think of comparing them to my writing today. That was mostly broad edge writing, whereas today I love the elegance of pointed pen
My days are spent addressing envelopes for any number of occasions, custom projects big and small, engraving all number of objects, and even some painting and woodburning mixed in there too for clients from all over. I also love being a part of live events and brand activations, engaging with guests and providing entertainment as they watch an item being personalized. With several kids still at home, my work allows me the flexibility to act as taxi driver and social scheduler when needed, creating a comfortable balance between work and family time.
When I’m not wielding my pen or hustling kids from place to place, I can be found singing at our church or reading a book on my Kindle, probably an inspirational Regency romance.
I invite you to explore this space and be inspired to dream up a way to present your guests, loved ones, or yourself with a beautiful gift.
